Viva Communications Inc., The Philippine STAR, and Newport World Resorts have partnered together to produce Bagets: The Musical, a stage adaptation of the iconic 1984 Filipino film starring Aga Muhlach, William Martinez, Herbert Bautista, Raymond Lauchengco, and JC Bonnin.

This collaboration between three leading giants of the Philippine entertainment and media industry is set to debut at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in the first quarter of 2026.

“The partnership between Viva, Newport World Resorts, and The Philippine STAR is a testament to the power of synergy in the Philippine entertainment industry,” Viva Chairman Vicente “Boss Vic” del Rosario Jr. said. “Together, we’re bringing a piece of Filipino cinematic history to the stage in a way that’s both nostalgic and groundbreaking.”

Under the direction of the late Maryo J. delos Reyes, Bagets was a cultural phenomenon among Filipino youth back in the 1980s.

The classic Viva Films movie, written by Jake Tordesillas, centers around five young boys who try to pass their senior year in different high schools. It premiered in local cinemas in February 1984 and spawned a sequel, a television series, and, now, a musical adaptation.
