Pillen: Filipino soy-meal market could be lucrative for Nebraska farmers | News

During his monthly call-in show on Monday, a caller asked Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen about the recently-completed trade mission to Japan and the Philippines.

In the Philippines, Pillen said they met with the country’s secretary of agriculture and said Nebraska has a great opportunity to sell soybean meal.

“That’s a way more cost-effective way to get it to a market like Vietnam, Southeast Asia, the Philippines, so, where we process our soybeans, create more value and then sell the soybean meal to be able to help them feed.”

Pillen said the Nebraska contingent also met with the secretary of energy who is interested in E20 because of what the governor describes as Nebraska’s high-value and low-carbon scores.
