Three Months to Prepare

Annabelle describes her preparation period as short but focused.

“Well, given that the coronation night of Binibining Pilipinas was just this June 15, I roughly had three months to prepare,” the 25-year-old beauty queen says.

“So, I think preparation-wise, what mattered the most was just maintaining the momentum I had from Binibini.

“And hopefully incorporating new lessons that I’ve learned along the way.”

Among those lessons, she highlights “balance in the catwalk.”

When asked what she’s currently focusing on the most, Annabelle is quick to point to her walk.

“For sure, definitely refreshing my catwalk,” she says.

“Learning the new routine that I have in mind for the Miss Globe pageant is something I’ll be working on.

“I’m flying tomorrow, but, tonight, I’ll have one last catwalk training later tonight.”

But preparation goes beyond the runway.

“Of course, I’ve always been working on Q&A as well,” she reveals.

“Because the Miss Globe has a head-to-head challenge, and this year is gonna be a little bit different than the previous year.

“Even I don’t know what to expect based on the schedules they’ve been giving me. So, I’m coming prepared in that aspect also.”

Though already recognized as a strong communicator, Annabelle still invests time in sharpening her speaking skills.

“Of course, I think it’s something that you really need to learn.

“Because especially as an events host, I tend to babble a lot.

“And you only have 30 or 60 seconds to answer the Q&A so, it’s always time management that I need to work on.”

Learning from Miss Charm

Miss Globe 2025 is not Annabelle’s first foray into the international scene.

She previously competed in Miss Charm 2023, where her gown appeared unfinished and ill-fitting, sparking concern among pageant fans and supporters.

In Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, on February 16, 2023, the young Iliganon’s wardrobe suffered from what many believed to be a sabotage.

“My first international pageant was Miss Charm 2023,” she recalls.

“I unfortunately had a little mishap with the preliminary evening gown.

“Well up until now, it’s still a mystery as to why it didn’t look the best that it could’ve been when I picked it up from the backstage.

“But nonetheless, I’ve moved forward, and I’ll always look back on my Miss Charm days and my working relationship with the Miss Charm organization with a lot of gratitude.”

This time, McDonnell is not leaving anything to chance.

“I’ve made sure that there’s no way you can mess with the evening gowns this time,” she declares.

“They’re bulletproof basically. Not literally, but if someone would wanna mess with them, it’s really hard to undo. You can’t undo it. It’s super hard now. I learned my lesson.”

Acknowledging the wave of Filipino talents excelling across different fields, she expresses: “It’s definitely pumping me up, which I’m very happy for all of our kababayans’ success.

“Hopefully, I can continue that streak. So, it’s something that we need to work on.

“Also, it just goes to show that in whatever field—whether it be through fashion designing, or singing, or in pageantry—the Filipino is deserving of a global stage.

“So, let’s hit that Miss Globe stage with a lot of national pride. And I’m translating that pride in my outfits.”

Annabelle goes solo in Albania

Annabelle’s preparation has had to account for one important factor—going solo.

“As you may not know, a lot of Miss Philippines delegates go by themselves abroad,” she relates.

“So, this time I’m no different. I’ll be completely alone by myself as I fly to Albania.”

Without her trusted team traveling with her, the perennial pageant darling explains the situation.

“Well, my personal team will not be able to make it,” she said.

“Because I think all the candidates have to either have their hair and make-up done or retouched by the official team that’s provided by the Miss Globe team.”

Despite the challenge of competing without her usual team, Annabelle has been proactive in training.

“Yes, I’ve been training very diligently with make-up and hairstyling as well.

“Although, I’m very grateful that the Miss Globe pageant does provide make-up and hairstylist for us throughout our pocket events all the way up to the coronation night.”

This hasn’t dampened her spirits: “Of course, we’re Miss Philippines so we come prepared to do it ourselves.”
