Even before hitting theaters, the South Korea–Philippines joint film Finding Santos is already making waves online. The romantic comedy road movie has captured the attention of netizens after its teaser, released on Instagram last September 12, skyrocketed to 10 million views and drew thousands of likes within days.
Starring Jang Theo of Single’s Inferno fame and Maeg Medina from PPop group YGIG, the teaser features the hauntingly beautiful Korean lullaby Island Baby (Seomjib Aegi). Rooted in a poem by Han In-hyun and later transformed into music by Lee Hong-ryeol, the lullaby tells the tender story of a child waiting alone at home while the mother braves the sea to harvest oysters—striking an emotional chord with audiences worldwide.
Beyond its love story, the film carries a deeper cultural significance. It commemorates the 76th anniversary of South Korea–Philippines diplomatic relations and the 75th anniversary of the Philippine military’s participation in the Korean War, paying tribute to shared history through the lens of cinema.
At its heart, Finding Santos is about companionship and connection. The narrative follows four characters—Woojin, Gabi, Junha, and Lara—as they embark on a transformative journey. What begins as a search for someone from the past evolves into a heartfelt exploration of healing, friendship, and belonging.
Directed by Son Hyunwoo and co-directed by Geong Seong Han, the film is produced by S.How Co., Ltd. and Show Biz Town, Inc.. The cast also includes Hans Galendez and SungIn Park, with a screenplay by Geon Seong Han and Park Chorong, and cinematography by Kim Jin Hyung and Chung Younsang.
