Newsnight has learned that the Filipino Nurses UK Association has written to the Chief Nursing Officer, Ruth May, asking for urgent action after figures emerged suggesting around one in 5 of NHS and health care workers who have died are from The Philippines.

This is despite Filipino workers making up less than 2% of the NHs workforce.

Francis Fernando of the Filipino Nurses UK Association, told Newsnight he thinks β€œFilipino workers are being taken advantage of” and they are afraid that they’ll be reprimanded if they speak out.

Emerging evidence suggests that Covid-19 is having a disproportionate effect on Black Asian and minority ethnic communities in Britain.

Yesterday the NHS announced a risk assessment process for BAME health workers and new guidance was issued, but campaigners believe more urgency is needed.

Why are filipino deaths so high, and what is it like for those working on the front line?

  • All the Sacrifices are worthless πŸ˜“πŸ˜’πŸ˜

  • This showcases how filipinos can really be dedicated and really can love…

  • Uk = Comanche, Apache and Lakota

    Philippines = Pawnee

  • I am not just a filipino because our coutry is small with all fronliners I am proud of you I πŸ₯°I salute you i am from the philippines

  • Not only philippines but nurse and doctor are in others country there are only working little bit because they work there

  • Filipino prides are working with our hearts and souls.

  • This really broke my heart to hear that my fellow filipino is risking their life in a country that doesn't care for their life. No proper PPE, come on people, they don't deserve this kind of treatment, they are helping your own people.

  • And you are bragging about the vaccine???? To forget what you’ve done?

  • Just because we are immigrants! They don’t care! This girl says the truth! And till now they don’t give proper PPE. They have there own protocol of PPE. Regular mask and plastic apron????? Come on?!

  • The government needs to pay!!!!!

  • UK NHS have a lot to learn from Australia health care. We have done very well combating this pandemic due to our leaders keeping on top of things and very strict guidelines when it comes to health and safety especially PPE. Protect the healthcare workers first before providing care.

  • Where ever u go as long as ur asian the treatment is unfair…personaly if i see a western people or a person i see racism..

  • ive been hospitalized a month ago bec of covid, nurses and doctors are just wearing mask
    no ppe,s

  • Systemic Racism…. evidently exist in North America…. USA & Canada.

  • That’s the culture of a filipino, just work and not complaining even other people are taking advantage of them.

  • The real front liners in this covid war, a canon ammunition. Filipinos are to shy or too scared to say no. Its hard if ur not a citizen in the country bcuz ur life is depending on a piece of a card/paper.

  • Consider your self lucky compared to you brethren hear in the Philippines over worked and underpaid not to mentioned that they were the first in line to get the first dose of china vaccine.

  • The thing is, Filipinos are too polite and accommodating to say NO… but a lot of them are being exploited. Aside from their sworn oath when they passed as healthcare workers, Filipinos are naturally family oriented and treat most people around them like families, that includes patients and colleagues.
