Owner Mayet Malang Evans brings more than just food to the table. Having lived in Dubai for 20 years before relocating to Penarth last December, her multicultural journey is deeply woven into the restaurant’s ethos.
Inspired by her husband’s diverse background and their life experiences across continents, Mayet aims to introduce authentic Filipino cuisine while embracing the family-friendly and pet-friendly spirit of Penarth.
“Filipino food isn’t widely known in the UK,” she says. “So we wanted to bring something fresh, homemade, and welcoming to the community.”
Owners of Burger Queen (Image: Nikita Singh) Burger Queen stands out for its homemade touch, from the carefully crafted seasoning and sauces to the fresh, daily ingredients. The menu reflects a blend of Filipino culinary heritage with a twist suited to local tastes, offering halal, vegetarian, and pet-friendly options.
Aside from their signature burgers, Burger Queen also offers a taste of the Philippines through a selection of traditional Filipino dishes, all made with care and authenticity. One unexpected treat on the menu is their viral Dubai chocolate, a rich and indulgent dessert that’s especially popular with those who recognise it from social media trends. It’s the perfect sweet finish after a savoury meal.
The setting couldn’t be more perfect ,right by the pier, with stunning seafront views that elevate the dining experience.
I had the pleasure of trying their fried chicken burger, which impressed me with its fresh vegetables and flavourful homemade sriracha that added a perfect kick.
The Royalty Beef Burger was equally delightful -the smoky beef paired surprisingly well with the sweetness of pineapple. We appreciated the freshness of the veg and onions, though I felt the sauce really brought everything together. While we personally wished for a juicier beef patty, the grilled texture on the outside combined with a well-cooked centre gave it a satisfying, homey quality ,all with the polish of a quality restaurant meal.
The restaurant also features a well-stocked bar, serving breakfast through to dinner seven days a week, which adds to its laid-back, welcoming atmosphere.

The emphasis on hospitality is palpable, a true reflection of Mayet’s belief in Asian warmth and inclusivity, and her desire to create a space that feels like home.
Their attention to cleanliness and quality is also noteworthy, with clear pride in maintaining high standards.
Burger Queen isn’t just about food; it’s about community, family, and sharing a piece of Filipino culture with Penarth and Cardiff. It’s a heartfelt venture by someone who turned her life journey into a delicious and inclusive dining experience.
If you’re in Penarth, do yourself a favour and check it out.
