Viva Communications, Inc. has entered into an exciting new chapter with WEBTOON Productions through a landmark three-year first-look development and production deal—one that’s poised to reshape the landscape of Filipino digital entertainment.
The partnership grants Viva One—the fast-growing streaming platform with over four million subscribers across 90 countries—exclusive access to upcoming adaptations of popular Wattpad stories, many of which already enjoy massive fan bases both locally and abroad. As part of this strategic agreement, Viva and WEBTOON Productions are doubling down on a shared vision: to bring fan-driven, emotionally resonant Filipino narratives to screens around the world.
“Ang Mutya ng Section E,” a recent smash-hit on Viva One, serves as a prime example of how digital fiction is evolving into global screen phenomena. Building on its viral success, the new deal signals Viva’s continued dominance as the home of top-tier Wattpad adaptations in the Philippines.
“This collaboration opens the door to bringing more bestselling and beloved Filipino Wattpad stories to the screen—for fans in the Philippines and wherever Viva One is available,” said Ryan Benitez, Development Executive, APAC, and Creator Manager at WEBTOON Productions. “It marks a new chapter for our creators, and we’re thrilled to see where this journey takes us.”
From early cinema hits like Diary ng Panget and Talk Back and You’re Dead, to modern streaming successes like The Rain in España, Seducing Drake Palma, and Safe Skies, Archer, Viva has consistently transformed digital novels into compelling visual narratives. Now, with the added muscle of WEBTOON Productions, the future looks even brighter.
At the heart of this collaboration lies a commitment to amplify Filipino voices and storytelling.
“This collaboration reflects our unwavering dedication to showcasing Filipino storytelling and expanding its reach to a global audience,” said Viva Communications Chairman and CEO Vic del Rosario Jr. “By working with WEBTOON Productions, we are tapping into stories that deeply resonate with Filipino readers and viewers, both locally and globally.”
The deal was brokered by Valerie Del Rosario, President and COO of Studio Viva, and Daryl Kho, Business Development Executive for Southeast Asia at WEBTOON Productions.
WEBTOON Productions is a global leader in data-driven, fan-first storytelling. Known for working with industry heavyweights like Netflix, Sony Pictures Television, and Penguin Random House, the studio brings cutting-edge insights and a robust creative ecosystem to the table—strengthening the pipeline between digital creators and screen-ready content.
With more adaptations already in development and slated for release in the coming years, this partnership promises an era of rich storytelling, faithful adaptations, and fresh entertainment. Viva One viewers can expect a new wave of binge-worthy series and films that stay true to their literary origins while elevating them through high-quality production.
