UAE introduces new visa categories for AI, entertainment, events, and tourism

The UAE has rolled out four new types of visit visas, targeting specialists in artificial intelligence, the entertainment industry, event participation, and cruise tourism.

According to a Khaleej Times report, the updated regulations were announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) as part of a wider effort to attract talent, entrepreneurs, and visitors from across the globe. The authority said the initiative aims to “reinforce the UAE’s approach of openness to the world and its efforts to attract talent, expertise, and entrepreneurs.”

The new visa categories are designed with specific requirements:

AI specialists may obtain single or multiple-entry permits provided they secure a letter from a recognized technology facility.

Entertainment visas will be granted for temporary stays linked to performances or related activities.

Event visas will be available for those attending festivals, exhibitions, conferences, or cultural and sports activities, requiring an official letter from the hosting entity.

Tourism visas will allow multiple entry through cruise ships and yachts, with licensed facilities serving as sponsors.

Alongside these additions, the ICP has also introduced a humanitarian residence permit valid for one year, extendable under certain conditions, for foreigners whose countries are affected by wars, disasters, or unrest.

Other measures include one-year residency options for widows and divorcees, provided they apply within six months of the spouse’s death or divorce. Additionally, residents can now sponsor visits for friends and relatives up to the third degree, with income requirements set at AED 4,000 for immediate family, AED 8,000 for extended relatives, and AED 15,000 for friends.

The ICP further clarified conditions for business exploration visas, requiring proof of financial solvency or prior professional engagement, and introduced new rules for truck drivers’ visas, which may now be issued as single or multiple-entry permits with health insurance and financial guarantees.
