Dozens of people in Vietnam and the Philippines have been killed as Typhoon Bualoi passed through the two countries.
The typhoon made landfall in central Vietnam early Monday. Authorities say at least 11 people were killed.
Local media say Bualoi triggered tornadoes that toppled houses in the northern province of Ninh Binh. About 50,000 people have been evacuated to shelters and four airports were closed.
A 45-year-old man said, “I’ve witnessed many storms, but in terms of wind power, this is one of the strongest I’ve ever encountered because of its intense gusts.”
Last Friday, Severe Tropical Storm Bualoi swept through the Philippines. More than 20 people were reportedly killed and dozens injured.
Bualoi has moved into Laos, while being downgraded to a tropical storm. However, authorities in Vietnam are warning of severe floods and landslides.
