No longer just ‘waving through a window,’ the well-loved Pasek and Paul musical is finally in Manila as it kicks off its Asian Tour
MANILA, Philippines – A shy, lonely teenage schoolboy writes a letter to himself as a way to cope with his struggles, and, with it, unwittingly sets off a chain of events that challenge him to confront truths about himself and to come clean to the people he cares about.
The thoroughly moving story is wrapped in the beautiful — and refreshingly radio-friendly — music by the American songwriting duo Pasek and Paul. No wonder Dear Evan Hansen is beloved around the world, the Philippines included. A decade since it opened on Broadway, the musical has finally found its way to Manila as it kicks off its Asian Tour.
Cast members Sonny Monaghan (Evan Hansen), Tom Dickerson (Jared Kleinman), and Olivia-Faith Kamau (Alana Beck) talk to Rappler senior producer JC Gotinga about the show that’s sure to live — for forever — in Pinoy hearts.
Catch the episode at 7 pm on Friday, September 19. – Rappler.com
