The 8th Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards — The EDDYs — will be broadcast internationally tonight, July 27, bringing the spotlight on the best of Philippine cinema to a global audience.
Organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd), the annual event honors outstanding achievements in filmmaking, from acting and directing to box office performance and production excellence.
This year’s big winner was the film “Green Bones,” directed by Zig Dulay, which dominated the awards with five wins including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography (Neil Daza), Best Actor (Dennis Trillo), and Best Supporting Actor (Ruru Madrid).
Marian Rivera took home Best Actress honors for her role as Teacher Emy in the political thriller Balota, directed by Kip Oebanda, while Lorna Tolentino bagged the Best Supporting Actress for “Espantaho.” Meanwhile, GMA Pictures was named Producer of the Year.
In the Box Office Heroes category, several stars were recognized for their record-breaking success and audience impact. Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards were honored for “Hello, Love, Again,” now the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time. Vice Ganda earned the same recognition for the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival blockbuster “And the Breadwinner Is….” Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto also made their mark with their comeback film “Un/happy for You.” Trillo and Madrid were likewise celebrated as Box Office Heroes.
