Tambuli Awards Recognize AIA Philippines for Breast Cancer Program

AIA’s Hope for the Breast program recognized for purpose-driven innovation and social impact

AIA Philippines, the local arm of global insurer AIA (formerly Philam Life), was recently honored with a Bronze at the Asia-Pacific Tambuli Awards under the Builders of Society: Advocacy category for its life-changing initiative, Hope for the Breast.

Launched in key Metro Manila cities—San Juan, Pasig, and Quezon City—Hope for the Breast champions early detection, awareness, and accessible treatment for breast cancer, particularly among underserved Filipino women.

This recognition comes as breast cancer continues to be the most common cancer affecting Filipino women, accounting for 17.5% of all new cancer cases in the country. Unfortunately, many are diagnosed at a late stage due to limited access to screening and treatment. AIA Philippines is working to change that narrative.

At the heart of the program is the Hope Mobi Clinic, a mobile, fully equipped clinic developed in partnership with The Medical City. This “clinic on wheels” brings free mammography screenings and accessible treatment options directly to communities, eliminating financial and logistical barriers that often prevent early detection.

Without PhilHealth coverage, a mammogram can cost up to PHP 8,000—an amount out of reach for many. But through Hope for the Breast, these services are provided at no cost. In 2024 alone, over 1,000 women were screened through the initiative, with three early-stage cases successfully identified and treated, surpassing the program’s initial goals.

“Our purpose is to help people live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives—and that begins with creating shared value through meaningful programs,” said Melissa Henson, Chief Marketing Officer of AIA Philippines. “This award affirms the impact we can make when we combine innovation, compassion, and community collaboration.”

Among those helped by the initiative is Shirley, a grandmother whose breast cancer was caught early. “I was scared when I got the results,” she said. “But everything—from diagnosis to surgery—was taken care of. Hope for the Breast gave me a second chance.”

The program’s success lies in its strong partnerships. By working hand in hand with The Medical City, LGUs, and barangay health workers, AIA Philippines created a health network that delivers not only screening but complete care, including diagnostics, surgery, and follow-up—all free of charge.

“By removing barriers to prevention and protection, we’re not just saving lives—we’re encouraging more Filipinos to proactively care for their health,” Henson added.

Looking ahead to 2025, AIA Philippines is set to expand Hope for the Breast to even more communities across the country—reaching more women, providing more screenings, and saving more lives. This continued commitment to inclusive healthcare shows how purpose-driven action can create real, lasting impact for Filipino families.
