SWS survey shows surge in Filipino optimism; Palace vows to sustain gains

MANILA – Optimism among Filipinos has reached its highest level in six months, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, prompting Malacañang to assure the public that government efforts to uplift lives will continue.

The June 25–29 survey recorded a Net Gainers Score of +12, rated “very high” by SWS and up from April’s +5. The figure marks the strongest showing since December 2024’s +13.

“It is definitely good news. The administration welcomes the result of the survey,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a briefing at Malacañang.

She added: “And Filipinos can rest assured that their government will continue to work hard to improve the condition and quality of life of every citizen, especially those who need it most.”

The survey found that 35 percent of respondents considered their lives better than a year ago, while 42 percent said their situation was unchanged. Those who reported their lives worsened accounted for 23 percent.

Regional results highlighted a sharp surge in optimism in the Visayas, which jumped from “fair” 0 in April to an “excellent” +22. Mindanao also posted a rebound with +16, up from -3. Metro Manila improved to +10, while Balance Luzon dipped slightly to +6.

SWS said the poll was based on face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults nationwide, divided equally among Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. The survey carried a ±3 percent national margin of error and ±6 percent per major area./PN
