About the Seminar
In this event, Senator Loren Legarda, four-term Filipino Senator will discuss green growth areas in the Philippines, touching on the landmark measures she has principally authored and sponsored, including the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and the Climate Change Act of 2009, among others. She will also be sharing on the upcoming measures in the 20th Congress such as the Blue Economy Bill, Low Carbon Economy Bill, Plastic Regulation and Circular Economy Bill, and other related proposals.
About the Speaker
Senator Loren Legarda is the longest-serving female senator in Philippine history. Over four terms in the Senate, she has authored and championed numerous landmark legislation to improve the lives of Filipinos and advance inclusive, sustainable, and resilient national development.
She is the only woman in Philippine history to have topped two senatorial elections (1998 and 2007), and the only female to serve as Majority Leader of the Senate. She is a recipient of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award and The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) award. Her pioneering work in environmental advocacy has earned her global recognition. Senator Legarda is also a staunch advocate for Philippine culture and arts, indigenous rights, and strengthening international partnerships.
Senator Legarda graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines and was conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws. She holds a Master’s Degree in National Security Administration, graduating as topnotcher from the National Defense College of the Philippines. She is also a graduate of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Command and General Staff College (AFPCGSC) and serves as a Reserve Officer in the Philippine Air Force with the rank of full colonel.
