Dubai’s vibrant artistic community will gather on July 5 for Words Meet Harmonies, a choral and spoken word concert at The Fridge Warehouse in Alserkal Avenue. Blending the power of poetry with music from the Philippines, the Arab world, and France, the event promises a stirring celebration of identity, memory, and unity.
Headlined by acclaimed poet Danabelle Gutierrez, the concert features performances by the Dubai Camerata Singers, along with guest ensembles Koro Ducere and Angels Singing Choir. Each choir brings its own unique voice and is led by a dedicated director—Yuliana Kireyeva for Angels Singing Choir and Arne Lubasan for Choir Connect.
Audiences can expect a diverse program ranging from lively Visayan folk songs to the intricate rhythms of Arabic Muwashshah and the emotive lyricism of French choral compositions. These musical traditions are tied together through Gutierrez’s spoken word pieces, which delve into themes of migration, belonging, and shared human experience.
“Words Meet Harmonies” is part of Choir Connect 2025, a wider initiative that aims to build bridges between cultures through collaborative music-making. Spearheaded by Creative Director Fermel Fuentes and Choir Master Arne Lubasan, the project reflects the UAE’s Year of Community – Hand in Hand, spotlighting the country’s diverse population and their contributions to a shared cultural life.
At its core, Choir Connect 2025 is about more than performance—it’s a movement that seeks to foster solidarity among the UAE’s growing choral community. Through music and poetry, it offers a space for connection, creativity, and cross-cultural exchange.
The concert begins at 7:30 PM, with tickets starting from AED 50, available on Platinumlist.net. For more information, contact roaa@thefridge.me or visit @thefridge.me on Instagram.
