Philippines Ambassador visits the Isle of Wight for cultural event

A special cultural event hosted by the Isle of Wight’s Filipino community saw the Ambassador of the Philippines to the UK, His Excellency Teodoro L. Locsin Jr, visit the Riverside Centre in Newport.

The event was organised by members of the Philippines Community based on the Island and brought together local community leaders and residents for a celebration of culture and connection.

Among those attending were Cllr Ian Ward, Cllr Ed Blake, Cllr Prinal Patel, Mr Ramesh Babu, Anupama Singh, Krushila Patel, Aireen Gauntlett and Joy Bruce.

Speaking after the event, organiser Rajesh Patel said: “It was a brilliant occasion, and we were honoured by the presence of His Excellency.

Rajesh also recently completed a paragliding challenge on June 24, raising money for Wessex Cancer Trust, supported by local sponsors.

He said: “It was the most wonderful experience. I want to thank all those who helped me raise a good amount of money for this fantastic cause.”
