“The Philippines takes its place at the global table.”
With those words, Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco proudly welcomed the cast and crew of Somebody Feed Phil, Netflix’s longest-running food and travel series, during their recent stop in Manila.
A vibrant Filipino feast was prepared in honor of the show’s host, Phil Rosenthal, with Frasco herself guiding him through each lovingly crafted dish.
From street food staples to heirloom recipes, every plate told a story—and Rosenthal, known for his curiosity and charm, savored every moment.
“It was a joy to meet Phil Rosenthal, whose signature curiosity and humor brought our food culture to life,” Frasco shared, reflecting on their encounter.
Upon watching the Manila episode, she expressed pride in how it showcased not just the rich tapestry of Filipino cuisine, but the even richer spirit of Filipino hospitality.
The episode shines a light on street vendors, family-run kitchens, and culinary traditions passed down through generations—all wrapped in the signature warmth of Filipino culture.
“Behind the scenes, many hands came together to make this happen,” she said. “It was a true collaboration in celebrating what makes the Philippines a tourism destination to love.”
Frasco emphasized that the feature supports the Department of Tourism’s broader push to promote gastronomy tourism—inviting travelers to explore the Philippines through its flavors, stories, and cultural heritage.
“Food is one of the most heartfelt expressions of who we are,” she added.
“And now, through Phil’s lens, the world gets a taste of the Philippines at its most authentic and most delicious.”
