MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested three female passengers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for falsifying overseas employment contracts.

In a news release on Tuesday, the NBI-International Airport Investigation Division said the three were arrested on Aug. 20.

They were scheduled to fly to Hong Kong as tourists, but were intercepted by members of the Border Control and Intelligence Unit during routine inspections for presenting suspected falsified Overseas Employment Contracts (OECs), the NBI said.

The three disclosed that they were recruited through a social media platform to work in Cambodia as customer service representatives (CSR).

Further investigation disclosed that an immigration officer initially cleared the three to depart.

The officer is at-large and is being hunted down by the NBI.

The three were charged with violation of Article the Revised Penal Code; while the BI officer was charged with violations of the Cybercrime Prevention Act and Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.

The BI also reported on Monday the repatriation of 24 Filipinos, 14 of them females, who were rescued from scam hubs in Cambodia.

They arrived on Aug. 23 at NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City on board a Philippine Airlines flight from Phnom Penh.
They were promised CSR posts and a monthly salary of USD1,500 (about PHP85,000).

However, they received just USD300 (about PHP17,000) and were forced to work as love scammers in catphishing syndicates targeting male Europeans. (PNA)
