Marina celebrates diversity with multicultural festival
Marina’s multicultural festival returns for its third year, showcasing diverse cultural performances, food, and educational opportunities
Marina is hosting its third annual multicultural festival this Saturday at Vince DiMaggio Park, featuring cultural performances, food vendors, and activities for children to celebrate the city’s diverse community. “It’s a way where we can just come together as a community and celebrate everyone’s uniqueness, just as an individual, but as a culture, and realize that we’re different, but we’re the same,” said Amanda Becker, special events coordinator for Marina.Mary Ventura, choreographer for the Sampaguita Dancers of St. Jude Church, expressed her enthusiasm for sharing cultural experiences. “I love to share our culture. I love watching the other dances, and knowing, learning about the culture, and sharing, especially the food too, it’s wonderful. It’s a blessing,” she said.Ventura also highlighted the significance of the festival for the local community, particularly the Asian population influenced by the military presence. “Especially in Marina, there’s so many Asians here because of the military, and I think it’s a delight when they see us. Especially, we were just in the Fourth of July parade, our first one, and people were just excited to see us, our culture, because I don’t think we ever had the Filipino group be sponsored in the parade,” she said. The festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Vince DiMaggio Park in Marina.
