President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday reminded newly promoted generals and flag officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to remain loyal with the 1987 Constitution and the Filipinos.
Marcos said this in his speech after administering the oath taking of newly promoted AFP generals and flag officers in Malacañang Palace. He urged them to uphold the rule of law and defend the country’s democracy.
”Huwag kalilimutan, ang panunumpa ninyo ngayon ay sa Republika at sa bawat Pilipinong nagtitiwala at dahil sa inyo, sila ay mabubuhay nang ligtas at may dangal,” Marcos said.
(Do not forget that your oath is to the Republic and to every Filipino who trusts you, and because of you, they live peacefully and with dignity.)
”Today is not only a milestone but a renewed pledge that your loyalty remains with the Constitution and the Filipino people. Always act with integrity, uphold the rule of law, defend our democracy,” Marcos added.
He said the generals’ accomplishments have underscored the professionalism, the dedication, and the readiness of the Philippine military.
”They also strengthen the confidence of our people in your ability to protect our sovereignty and to uphold the values that we hold as a nation. You have achieved much this year, so this promotion is well-deserved,” Marcos said.
Marcos also called on the AFP officials to strengthen presence in the air, land, and sea; as well as deepen ties with partners in securing the region.
”We must guard the peace we have gained and deepen our ties with partners who also envision a freer, more stable region,” he said.
Marcos ensured that his administration would do its best so ”we can provide you with the resources and benefits so that you can focus on your duty.”
At least 40 officials took their oath before the President. Among them was Brigadier General Jude Ejercito, wing commander, 5th Air Force Wing Reserve of the Philippine Air Force. He is the son of former President Joseph Estrada.
The President made the statement after the AFP expressed full support over the Marcos administration’s campaign against corruption.
