The first four official entries to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) have finally been revealed.

On July 8, MMFF announced the official entries at a mall in Makati and through a one-hour livestream on Facebook. The event was hosted by Enchong Dee and KaladKaren, with a special performance by “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab” housemates Brent Manalo, Ralph de Leon, Esnyr, and River Joseph.
The first four official entries include “Call Me Mother,” “Rekonek,” “Manila’s Finest,” and “Shake, Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins.” Meanwhile, the second batch of MMFF entries will be announced on September 30.
Below is more information regarding the first batch of entries:
- “Call Me Mother” (directed by Jun Robles Lana) stars Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre
- “Rekonek” (directed by Jade Castr0) stars Gerald Anderson, Gloria Diaz, Carmina Villaroel, Zoren Legaspi, and Alexa Miro.
- “Manila’s Finest” (directed by Rae Red) stars Piolo Pascual
- “Shake, Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins” (directed by Shugo Praico, Joey de Guzman, and Ian Lorenos) stars Carla Abellana, Elijah Alejo, Loisa Andalio, Ivana Alawi, Ryan Bang, Janice de Belen, Francine Diaz, Seth Fedelin, Kaila Estrada, Richard Gutierrez, JM Ibarra, Ashley Ortega, Ysabel Ortega, Manilyn Reynes, Fyang Smith, and Dustin Yu.
The theme of this year’s highly anticipated film festival is “MMFF 51: A New Era for Philippine Cinema.”
Last year, MMFF celebrated its 50th year with the theme “Sinesigla sa Singkwenta.” With 70 submissions, the film screened ten films: “Green Bones,” “And the Breadwinner is…,” “The Kingdom,” “Uninvited,” “Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital,” “My Future You,” “Espantaho,” “Topakk,” “Hold Me Close,” and “Isang Himala.”
