Sophia of the global girl group Katseye brought Philippine folklore to the international stage by transforming into a manananggal in the official music video for their remake of the “Monster High Fright Song.”
The video, released Friday in collaboration with the Monster High franchise, features the six Katseye members embodying mythical creatures rooted in their respective cultures.
Sophia stood out in a striking red ensemble with fangs, portraying the manananggal, a winged, viscera-hunting creature in Filipino mythology.
Other members also showcased monsters from their cultural backgrounds such as Megan as a Húli Jīng, Lara a Rakshasa, Yoonchae a Jangsanbeom, Manon a sea monster, and Daniela a werewolf.
Set in the halls of Monster High, the music video shows the group dancing and walking through supernatural scenes as they reimagine the franchise’s theme song.
Originally released in 2010, “Monster High Fright Song” celebrates the lives of teenage offspring of famous monsters attending the spooky high school.
The track is the latest release following Katseye’s June EP Beautiful Chaos, which includes fan favorites like “Gnarly” and “Gabriela.”
