The Big Apple might be getting a major scoring boost.

The 33-year-old guard, who was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2021, has built a reputation as one of the league’s most reliable scorers off the bench. During the 2024–25 season with the Jazz, he averaged 16.2 points, 3.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds, although he shot a career-low 40.8 percent from the field.
Clarkson missed the final stretch of the season due to a medical procedure for plantar fasciitis in his left foot, limiting him to 37 games.
If the Knicks seal the deal, Clarkson’s role could be pivotal in revamping their second unit, which recorded the fewest minutes and points of any bench squad in the league last season.
His scoring punch and shot creation would provide crucial relief for All-Star guard Jalen Brunson, who led the NBA in ball-handling minutes at 8.6 per game.
Given his experience with the Lakers, Cavaliers and Jazz, Clarkson could even slot into closing lineups to support New York’s late-game offense.
Clarkson, who reached the NBA Finals with Cleveland in 2018, may now bring his clutch credentials and veteran leadership to Madison Square Garden.
The Utah Jazz, meanwhile, are recalibrating their roster after acquiring guards Ace Bailey and Walter Clayton Jr. in the 2025 NBA Draft.
