Doha, Qatar: The Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center has launched the activities of the Sports League for Expatriate Communities.
The center aims to organise diverse programmes that combine entertainment with educational activities, allowing these communities to become more familiar with the local culture and identity.
The programme runs for an entire month and includes a volleyball league for the Nepali community and a basketball league for the Filipino community, with the participation of dozens of community members.
The competitions take place in a spirited and enthusiastic atmosphere that reflects the popularity of both sports. In addition, the programme features educational segments that help members of the two communities engage positively with the local society and gain a deeper understanding of its culture and identity.
It is worth noting that the Sports League programme is held once a year for each of the most popular sports within the target communities: basketball for the Filipino community, football for the African community, volleyball for the Nepali community, and cricket for the Indian and Sri Lankan communities.
This ensures strong participation in the events and, at the same time, provides an appropriate dose of cultural enrichment.
