4th October 2025 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong police have arrested a 58-year-old Filipino woman in connection with the theft of a social media influencer’s handbag, which was left unattended while she attempted to assist a lost cat in Hung Hom last week.
The incident occurred on 30th September when local influencer Suet E, while passing through Lo Lung Hang Street, noticed a stray feline and temporarily placed her belongings on a nearby flowerbed to photograph the animal for online identification purposes. Upon leaving the location, she inadvertently forgot to retrieve her handbag.
Closed-circuit television footage subsequently revealed that at approximately 7.15am the following morning, a woman passing the same location discovered and removed the bag from the flowerbed.
The influencer initially attempted to resolve the matter informally through social media platform Threads, publicly appealing for the return of her personal documents while offering to let the finder keep the cash contents as a “transport fee.” When this approach proved unsuccessful after two days, she formally reported the incident to police on 2nd October.
Following comprehensive investigation and review of CCTV evidence, officers from the Hung Hom Division Patrol Squad arrested the suspect on Baker Street during anti-crime patrol operations this morning (4th October). The woman, who holds Hong Kong identity cards, remains in custody for further questioning.
A police spokesperson confirmed that all stolen property has been successfully recovered and that the case has been transferred to the Kowloon City District Crime Squad for continued investigation. Authorities reiterated that theft constitutes a serious offence in Hong Kong, carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment.
