A man recently removed a Philippine flag that was hanging outside the Town Hall in Greenwich, Connecticut, and replaced it with a U.S. Army flag.
According to the Inquirer.net, the flag was raised on June 13 to celebrate Philippine Independence Day. It was supposed to fly until June 16, but the next day, Greenwich residents discovered it had been replaced with the U.S. Army flag.
The resident who removed the flag was David Wold. He told investigators, according to Inquirer.net, that he had replaced the flag to celebrate the Army’s founding on June 14.
Wold has issued an apology.
“I sincerely apologize to the Greenwich Filipino-American community for removing the Filipino flag from the Town Hall flagpole on the morning of June 14,” Wold said in a statement, per Greenwich Time. “I met with town officials and am aware that my actions were not only wrong, but hurtful to the Filipino-American community here in Greenwich. I have assured town officials that this will not happen ever again.”
