Filipinos in Entertainment | Breaking The Tabo | Episode 1 | One Down

Are Filipinos represented in Hollywood? Well, not exactly…

In our first episode of Breaking The Tabo, we explore Filipino Representation in Entertainment.
____
Breaking the Tabo: Let’s talk real shit is a satirical series that explores modern Filipino experiences not included in dominant discourse or mainstream media.

“Breaking the Tabo” is a play on words for β€œbreaking the taboo.” To break the taboo is to break from something that is excluded from mention. A tabo… well, Filipinos will understand. We’ll be releasing a new episode every Thursday of Filipino American History Month!

  • ooohhhh halo halo. it would be so "cool" if they sell that here. also some pandesal with nutella

  • Hollywood is overdue.

Many people know who Bruce Lee was. But the same people have no clue who Dan Inosanto is. πŸ‡΅πŸ‡

Meanwhile, the Western music industries are inches ahead.

    πŸ‡΅πŸ‡

  • Filipinos are very talented especially in music

  • Love this video!πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡΅πŸ‡

  • but you can hear them say "Mahal ko kayo" in every publicity video out there just to sell.

  • also poppy li in mythic quest!

  • Filipinos mostly are south east asians

And i sense the only type of asian who tends to seek other classification like Hispanic and pacific islander and whatever is out there

  • Reggie Valdez or Reggie Lee Filipino actor in prison break season 2 and Grimm series

  • White people are afraid of Filipinos… cause Filipinos are way more talented than white…

  • You forgot to mention the actors who should be praised for playing different ethnicities: Reggie Lee who plays Chinese roles and Ernie Reys Jr. who plays various ethnicities. But above all, you forgot Rob Schneider! πŸ˜†

  • Just Subscribed and enjoying every video you have. Keep representing Filipino!! More Videos guys!

  • stop hella trying

  • How can I find this on Kumu? Could somebody help me pls?

  • πŸ‘πŸ½

  • thats why im bothered there are no fillpino nurses in grace anathomy

  • Why demand Hollywood to hire more filipino director, writers, etc? When most of the content that are produced here in the country are shit. How about improving the series and films produced in the country before demanding more representation in western media. Take South Korea for example, they have been creating well produced series and films that it got recognized by Hollywood. Parasite won 4 Oscars in 2020. We won't need representation from Hollywood when we can represent our nation on our own. The victim mentality in this video is a bit cringey to be honest. Hollywood doesn't owe anyone representation, they could very well just make content that only represents them.

  • This channel is so underrated

  • Here we go! Ang pagka reklamador ng Pinoy dinala na sa US. So to recognized the ethnicity of Filipino it should be recognized in the Hollywood? What? Get Real! you cannot even Pronounced Filipino in Filipino accent but you want to be recognize as Filipino in THE US. Hollywood is an American Company. Instead of whining why don't we create our OWN Hollywood just like the Korean created K-POP. The truth of the matter is we don't have originality and we cannot even love our own media company and now you are whining to American produce movies. Lol

    – filipino

  • Part 2 plsss

  • Anna Maria Perez de Tagle was in Hannah Montana and Camp Rock

  • I love this channel. It made me tear up a bit. Filipinos are so under rated for so long.

  • Oh how I miss to hear:

"It's your Ate Sapphire here, wanna hear something scary?"

  • So many filipino-american actors yet not enough filipino-american roles. Why do they have to play roles of the different race they are from? I mean. So true. Love this vid.

  • this is awesome. i need to definitely watch yellow rose.

  • Omg this channel deserved millions of subscriber

  • Underrated channel

  • Omg saw this in tiktok and was really informative!

  • Biro lang, gusto mo makita ang mga Pilipino sa TV manood kanang TFC πŸ˜‚

  • "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" (HSMTMTS), the not-a-spinoff of the HSM films, is a step in the right direction in terms of the reclaiming the Filipino space that they missed with Vanessa Hudgens' character. The female lead is a Fil-Am, played by a Fil-Am actress, Olivia Rodrigo. (The show is better than the HSM films IMO 🀣)

  • This is so good! Thank you for producing this! Also don’t forget Charice when she played Sunshine Corazon on GLEE! 😍
