Remittances from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Kuwait rose 4.36% in the first seven months of 2025, reaching $330.9 million, according to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. The growth reflects steady labour demand in Kuwait’s service, healthcare, and domestic sectors, key employers of Filipino workers.
Across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), OFWs remitted nearly $3.4 billion between January and July, up 6.33% from $3.2 billion last year. The Gulf accounted for 96.47% of all remittances from the Middle East and 42.15% of the $8.07 billion total from Asia, underscoring its critical role in sustaining Filipino household incomes.
Saudi Arabia remained the largest contributor with $1.24 billion, followed by the UAE, which recorded the fastest annual growth at 8.98%. Oman saw the slowest growth at 1.74%, while Bahrain contributed $163.55 million.
Globally, OFWs sent home $19.93 billion in the same period, with the Gulf region accounting for 17.07% of the total.
Remittances continue to serve as a lifeline for the Philippine economy and highlight the enduring reliance on overseas employment. The sustained remittance flow also signals the resilience of Filipino workers and their central role in both Gulf economies and the Philippines’ economic stability.
