Filipino Heritage Month wraps up with all-Filipino artist lineup at Montreal Olympic Stadium

As Filipino Heritage Month came to a close, Montreal’s Filipino community held one final celebration. The event took place at the Olympic Stadium and was part of the city’s First Fridays food festival.

“This event means a lot to the Filipino community because we’re bringing Filipino culture here at Olympic park and we’re really grateful to be bringing Filipino culture, Filipino talent, music, dance to different spaces,” said Filipinos of Montreal co-founder, Shari Ramos.

The performance featured a lineup of all-Filipino artists curated by community organization Filipinos of Montreal.

“It’s important for us to do this kind of celebration here at Olympic park because it allows us to bring the community all the way here, celebrate our identity,” Ramos said. “And today’s theme is Harana, which is a traditional form of serenading. So we’re here to serenade not only the Filipino community, but the greater Montreal community.”

“The Filipino community is so strong in talent and creatives, it’s really just a matter of finding a platform to share it,” said Filipinos of Montreal co-founder, Terrie Reyes. “Right here at the Olympic park is one of the perfect places.”

Filipino Heritage Month is celebrated annually in June and celebrates the contributions of Filipino Canadians. The month also overlaps with the Philippines’ independence day – celebrated June 12.
