Filipino American Business Association of Glendale marks 35th anniversary with education awards — Southern California

Glendale Mayor’s Certificate of Recognition to outstanding FABAG members and business

Glendale, CA – Founded in September 1990 in Glendale, CA, the Filipino American Business Association of Glendale (FABAG-GLAC) hosted a successful Black and White event at Phoenicia Restaurant.

It was truly a September to Remember as this nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization marked its 35th Anniversary and Gift of Education Grant Awards, alongside the birthday celebration of September-born Board Members.

Four High School student recipients of the Grants with FABAG Board members and ConGen Cruz.

The Grant Awards provided financial assistance to four outstanding Filipino American students from the Glendale Unified School District (GUSD), helping them move closer to realizing their dreams as they begin their college journey. Two recipients came from Glendale High School and the other two from Herbert Hoover High School. They accepted their awards accompanied by their parents.

Edith Fuentes, current President of FABAG, said: “Thirty-five years is a great milestone that’s only achieved through the dedication and commitment of long-standing members who stayed with us through the years, and of course, the new members who brought fresh ideas and fire under our feet. We have a great team, and I am so thankful to all of them.”

FABAG expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported and celebrated with them, including Philippine Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz and his wife Catherine, Glendale Councilmember Elen Asatryan, field representatives from the Offices of Senator Sasha Perez and Assemblymember Jessica Caloza, representatives from the Glendale Fire and Police Departments, GUSD Board of Education Immediate Past President Shant Sahakian, GUSD Superintendent Dr. Darnieka Watson, and former Mayor and Councilmember Paula Devine.

Also present were Glendale YMCA President and CEO George Saikali, Board of Directors Chair Elizabeth Manasserian, and COO Beth Crawford, along with representatives of the Rotary Club, UAPSoCal, former mayors and councilmembers Dave Weaver and Paula Devine, as well as other church and community organizations.

The program featured the awarding of Certificates of Recognition to FABAG officers Jo Solomonson and Ami Bautista, and to community members Ara Kalfayan and Carmelo Andrada, Jr. The Filipiniana models showcased Philippine gowns and designs by Carl Andrada, Jr., while the award-winning Hawaiian dancers of Halau Na Mamo O’Panaewa captivated the audience with their grace and artistry.

Consul General Adelio Cruz delivered moving congratulatory remarks and presented a Certificate of Recognition to FABAG. Superintendent Dr. Watson inspired attendees with her message of encouragement. FABAG also extended a big thank-you to all donors, sponsors, supporters, and especially to its officers, board members, and active members.

First Vice President Aida Renee Rasper concluded the program, saying: “This is a special night for FABAG and our student awardees. We are so proud of our strong relationship and partnership with the community and stakeholders of Glendale and LA County. We have accomplished so much, and we look forward to making even bigger impacts in the coming years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and from FABAG.”
