Fil-Can Cultural Heritage Society Honors Community Champions

VANCOUVER 08 September 2025 — The Fil-Can Cultural Heritage Society hosted the event “Together We Heal: Honouring Our Community Champions” on 24 August 2025 at the Surrey City Hall Auditorium to recognize individuals and organizations who provided meaningful contributions and exemplified leadership in the aftermath of the Lapu-Lapu Day Block Party tragedy.
Philippine Consul General in Vancouver Gina A. Jamoralin was among the honorees recognized for the Consulate’s leadership and steadfast support of the Filipino community. In her remarks, the Consul General paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the tragedy. She also took the opportunity to thank the officials from the Federal, Provincial and Local Governments, Vancouver Police Department, BC Consular Corps, private organizations, business companies, volunteers, community leaders, medical doctors, nurses, Filcom organizations, and religious leaders of all faiths who offered immediate medical assistance and counselling; raised funds; and organized memorial masses and remembrance ceremonies. Consul General Jamoralin also highlighted that the Philippine Consulate will tirelessly work to uplift the welfare of the Filipinos and continue to engage them through worthy projects.
Other honorees included distinguished leaders and personalities such as Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim, Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mable Elmore, Member of Parliament (MP) Taleeb Noormohamed, Rey and Araceli Fortaleza of RF Media, and Global News Anchor Jason Pires as well as community organizations such as the United Filipino-Canadian Associations in British Columbia (UFCABC), Eagles Hinirang Club and Rotary Club of Vancouver-Mountainview.
