‘Eraserheads: Combo On The Run’ to be screened at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con 2025

“Eraserheads: Combo On The Run” is set to be screened at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2025, making it the first Filipino-produced film and the first music documentary to screen at the prestigious event.

In a historic milestone for both Philippine cinema and the global music documentary scene, the film will also be featured in a panel discussion that will take place in Exhibit Hall 6BCF, an esteemed venue typically reserved for major titles in entertainment and pop culture.

The panel will be led by director and producer Diane Ventura who will be joined by Eheads frontman Ely Buendia.

In a press statement, Ventura said she is “incredibly grateful” to represent the Philippines and its people on a global platform.

“It’s long been my dream to spotlight the ingenuity of Filipino art, talent, and creativity and to be part of a movement that reframes the Filipino narrative. This is also my way of putting out a more nuanced and extensive depiction of our people while bringing to light the richness, humor, and depth of our stories,” Ventura said.

“Eraserheads: Combo On The Run” will also be screened in theaters worldwide this 2025.

In celebration of its SDCC debut, Kid Heroes Publications has also announced a special collaboration with the Eraserheads and DVent Pictures through a limited-edition one-shot comic book inspired by the film.

Inspired by the band’s documentary, the comic book reimagines the band’s semi-fictional journey through four unique stories told in an anthology format.

Illustrated by award-winning artists Raymund Lee, Felix Morales, and Ardie Aquino, and written by Patricio Ginelsa and Justin Quizon, the “Combo On The Run” comic integrates music and mythology into an adventurous tale of musicians turned superheroes. They are making the world a better place one step at a time through their record-breaking hits, heroic deeds, and zombie-fighting missions.

The comic book features two exclusive cover designs by prominent Filipino American artists. Whilce Portacio illustrated the Combo On The Run comic book cover, created exclusively for the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con edition. He is best known for working on Marvel titles like “The Punisher,” “X-Factor,” “Uncanny X-Men,” and “Iron Man.”

Meanwhile, Stephen Segovia, who made his mark on the international stage through his collaborations with DC Comics, lent his artistry to the SuperManila Exclusive edition.

Fans can pre-order the comic book now via the official Kid Heroes website.

Eraserheads: Combo on the Run,” which premiered in Philippine cinemas this year on a limited run and was repeatedly extended several times due to demand, tells the story of one of the greatest Filipino bands of all time.

Aside from Eraserheads’ rise to the top, the film also shows the untold story of their painful breakup and the challenges it took to get back on stage for their historic reunion concert, “Ang Huling El Bimbo” in 2022, which drew in an estimated crowd of more than 60,000 fans.

The Eraserheads are also set to have their Electric Fun Music Festival on October 18 at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Paranaque City.

The festival lineup includes Alyson, Basti Artadi, Blaster, Carousel Casualties, Dong Abay Music Organization, General Luna, Imago, Moonstar88, Party Pace, Pinkmen, Sa Vie, and The Itchyworms. — Nika Roque/LA, GMA Integrated News
