DICT steps up to protect Filipino online shoppers

With more Filipinos shopping online, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is stepping in to ensure a safer digital experience.

On Tuesday, the agency called on e-commerce platforms to remove illegal and unpermitted products from their sites.

Following a meeting on Aug.29 with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), the DICT said it would strengthen efforts to ensure tighter enforcement against unauthorized online sales.

Major platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, TikTok, and Meta attended the meeting and have already been directed to take down listings for prohibited items.

“Protecting Filipino consumers and upholding the integrity of the digital economy is non-negotiable, and the Department will not hesitate to act against violators,” the DICT said.
