MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has confirmed the death of a Filipino tourist who lost consciousness while on a ride at Hong Kong Disneyland.
According to local media reports, the 53-year-old Filipino collapsed while on the “Frozen Ever After” attraction around 10 a.m. on Friday, August 29. He was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m. at a hospital in North Lantau.
“The Consulate General, through its Assistance-to-Nationals Section, confirmed the incident with the Lantau Police Headquarters and contacted the next of kin of the deceased to convey our heartfelt condolences and to assist them with the process of repatriating the deceased’s remains,” the DFA said in a statement.
“The Consulate General continues to coordinate with the local authorities and institutions concerned, while respecting the family’s privacy during this difficult time,” it added.
The DFA has yet to release further details about the Filipino tourist.
According to local media reports, a spokesperson for Hong Kong Disneyland Resort said the tourist’s family members disclosed that he had a pre-existing medical condition.
The spokesperson also clarified that the incident was “not related to ride safety.”
Meanwhile, according to its website, Hong Kong Disneyland has temporarily closed the Frozen Ever After ride from August 31 to September 19 for “operational adjustments.”
