Scrolling through social media feels like entering a new dimension. There are photos, memes, short videos, and interactive content, and then, seemingly by random, snippets of a movie or show appear. But these aren’t just any old clips, but scenes from an emerging new format: the vertical series.
Chances are, you’ve been exposed to vertical shows even without realizing it. Those random clips that look slightly weird but somehow get you to watch them from start to finish? Probably from a vertical series. It provides new experiences to viewers by applying mobile optimization, designing dramas in a vertical aspect ratio far from the usual landscape storytelling. It’s a format made for today’s quick attention spans, which is why they’re typically divided into bite-sized episodes with cliffhangers to keep the attention and engagement of the audience, making them want to swipe to see what happens next.
The artistic merit of these shows is to be debated, but people are watching them, and it has also caught the attention of local creatives who are stepping into the vertical series format with a Filipino twist.
Cornerstone Entertainment, a Filipino multimedia agency and talent management company home to many of your fave actors, content creators, and musicians, is expanding its footprint into vertical shows as they are set to debut two series in this form: 1, 2, 3 Boyfriend ni Marie and My Favorite Liar this year. And with a cast composed of social media stars and even a few P-pop idols, a new entertainment option is coming your way real soon.
1, 2, 3 Boyfriend ni Marie

A mix of romance, comedy, and slice of life, the series will revolve around the complex love story of Marie, played by TikTok star and content creator Perlas, who will be entangled with three men led by Yes My Love’s Niko Badayos, as well as Eli Padilla and Aaron Gonzales. Directed by James Mayo, the show is also said to explore concepts of bullying and self-love. Zoozoo, Sofia Jahrling, Samantha Samarita, and Naia Ching round out the cast.
My Favorite Liar

VXON’s Patrick and content creator Cheska Cabrera are bringing the kilig in this vertical rom-com featuring an enemies-to-lovers trope that feels made for the TikTok generation. Joining the cast are Kobe Michael Franciso and Angela Balagtas, with Rod Marmol serving as the show’s director.

As Cornerstone’s first-ever vertical shows, these series serve as a first impression of sorts. With that, the shows’ cast feel the gratitude and at the same time responsibility to be part of these projects. For Yes My Love’s Niko Badayos, “Super grateful kami sa lahat ng guidance na binigay sa’min ni Cornerstone and of course, with the production.”

Reflecting on her career so far, Perlas shared, “Nagla-live lang ako, tapos ngayon umaarte na ‘ko. Sobrang laking opportunity tapos sobrang happy ng puso ko, hanggang ngayon nao-overwhelm ako, ‘di pa rin ako makapaniwala.” Meanwhile, VXON’s Patrick expressed, “Pressure s’ya for us kasi ito ‘yung first time. So, parang ‘yung expectations nila for us, kailangan namin ibigay rin kasi nagtiwala sila sa’min.”
You can watch the shows through Cornerstone Entertainment’s TikTok account for the first three episodes and BeetzeePLAY for the whole release starting on September 26 and October 3, respectively.
