Cone on QMB: ‘He’s awesome, I’d love to have him’

MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas coach Tim Cone had a first-hand experience seeing former University of the Philippines big man Quentin Millora-Brown in action during Monday’s sendoff game for the national team.

The Filipino-American slotman saw action with the Macau Black Bears as one of their reinforcements, finishing with six points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Cone was left impressed, not just by the 6-10 big man’s size, but the skills he demonstrated while ranged against Gilas’ front court led by Japeth Aguilar and AJ Edu.

“He’s awesome. Man, I’d love to have him,” Cone said, in heaping praise for Millora-Brown, who had a one-and-done stint with the University of the Philippines, where he won a UAAP men’s basketball title in 2024.  “He’s physical, he gets to the offensive boards real well. Great size.” The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas has been trying to get the highly-skilled former UP slotman to play as a local, but thus far, FIBA classified him as a naturalized player.

Millora-Brown, known by his initials QMB, has said that his lawyers have already filed an appeal to change bis status to local.

Cone said having Millora-Brown is “just a dream,” which he added “is not possible” at this time.

“It’s not there yet, but I can dream and wish,” said Cone.

While QMB’s status with Gilas is uncertain, the former UP slotman had a chance to play against the national side during the sendoff game Monday night.

Millora-Brown managed to hold his own versus Gilas’ bigs though the former’s Macau Black Bears blew a 21-point lead and eventually, lost, 103-98.
