Combo on the Run’ To Screen At SDCC 2025

Philippine music and cinema take center stage at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2025 as Eraserheads: Combo On The Run becomes the first Filipino-produced documentary and first-ever music documentary to be officially featured at the prestigious global pop culture event.

Making its SDCC debut, the film will screen to an international audience and will be accompanied by a special panel at Exhibit Hall 6BCF, featuring director-producer Diane Ventura and Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia.

In a press release, Ventura expressed her deep gratitude for the opportunity to represent the Philippines on a global stage. “It’s long been my dream to spotlight the ingenuity of Filipino art, talent, and creativity and to be part of a movement that reframes the Filipino narrative. This is also my way of putting out a more nuanced and extensive depiction of our people while bringing to light the richness, humor, and depth of our stories.”

Last March, the documentary had a Philippine theatrical release, receiving widespread acclaim from critics, audiences, and Eraserheads fans alike. Initially planned for a limited run, its success led to an extended showing in nearly 200 cinemas nationwide, demonstrating the cultural relevance of the iconic OPM rock band and their timeless music.

Ahead of its screening at SDCC, Kid Heroes Publications announced a limited-edition comic book one-shot inspired by the film. Titled after the documentary of the same name, the 24-page comic is a mini-anthology featuring four unique stories that follow the band’s journey, blending their music with mythology and adventure — transforming them into superheroes who battle hordes of zombies.

Co-written by Patricio Ginelsa and Justin Quizon, the release features various collectible covers illustrated by award-winning artists Raymund Lee, Felix Morales, and Ardie Aquino, along with two exclusive cover designs by renowned Filipino comic book artists Whilce Portacio and Stephen Segovia.

San Diego Comic-Con 2025 will be held from July 24 to July 27, 2025.
