Choi Bo-min on Filipinos: “Everyone is very kind to me and everyone is nice.”

South Korean actor Choi Bo-min admits he was worried when he first arrived in the Philippines to do a couple of projects, including the GMA Prime series Beauty Empire.

“I was very worried because I’m a foreigner here. But everyone is very kind to me and everyone is nice,” she said with a smile.

So, he was very thankful that his co-actors, led by Barbie Forteza and Kyline Alcantara, are very helpful to him, especially when it comes to his lines as Alex.

“They’re so kind and nice. I was thankful about it because I can’t understand Tagalog very well and English, too. But they help me a lot,” Bo-min told the media and vloggers in an interview after he was introduced as the new ambassador of BlueWater Day Spa on Thursday, July 10.

“Honestly, I’m very confused and nervous and worried about it because [it’s] my first time in the Philippines. I can’t speak English very well. But the Beauty Empire staff, Kyline, Barbie, direk [Mark Sicat dela Cruz], all of them are very kind to me.

“I was very thankful. I think it’s very meaningful to me because it’s a very good experience working with the kind people and I also like my role. So, I think I have a very good time in here.”

Beyond Filipinos’ kindness, the Korean actor and K-pop star also admired the Philippines’ work culture, which he said was quite similar to that of South Korea.

“But the difference is that the Philippines [has] more energetic and chill vibe. I think that’s the little difference in Korea. But I like it, too,” he said.

Learning Tagalog

Aside from Beauty Empire, Bo-min also had a chance to record a Filipino love song titled “Nakaraang Buhay” under Universal Records. The song is also featured in the said series.

Bo-min, of course, had to learn the local language to record “Nakaraang Buhay,” which was kind of hard for him.

“It’s very long time. It’s like TMI [too much information], but I’m recording the late hours to learn the song. But it was a good experience because, you know, it’s my first time in the Philippines, first time in Tagalog. So, I hope everyone likes my song.”

In conclusion, Bo-min said about learning Tagalog, “I hope to learn more.”
