Adding to the visual splendor, the event’s mock bride and groom graced the runway, adorned in contemporary Qiapaos and Zhongshan suits. These modern interpretations of traditional Chinese attire were designed and reimagined by Cebuano designers Marichu Tan and Protacio Empaces. The bride, along with her bridesmaids, sported intricately styled Chinese coiffures, showcasing elegance and opulence from head to toe.
Tan and Empaces’ modern take on traditional Chinese wear for both men and women thoughtfully retained the cultural significance of Chinese heritage, positioning it within a contemporary context without compromising its traditional elements. Embroidered floral motifs adorned the brightly colored ensembles; delicate floral beadwork graced mesh skirts, structured bodices and Mandarin-collared suits; and fitted gowns featured sweep trains and pouf skirts.
The jewelry showcased was more than just accessories; these beautiful heirlooms told stories of a legacy forever preserved through the intricate art of jewelry making. A gold floral lariat, a diamond tennis choker with a square emerald pendant, a midnight-blue and colorless diamond-encrusted choker necklace and brilliant Figaro chains were among the stunning pieces highlighted during the ceremony.
The prevalence of Ting Huns in the Filipino-Chinese community underscores a shared commitment: not only to preserve a tradition of love that has defined Chinese marital unions but also to uphold Chinese culture through art. As it is a celebration of love, it is also a vibrant tribute to a culture that has beautifully endured, thanks to the persistence of a community adamant in keeping its heritage alive through rituals, symbols and stories passed from one generation to the next.
