Canada’s Suki Doll To Compete In New Slaysian Royale Spinoff Of ‘Drag Race’

The Montreal-based queen will compete against 11 legendary Asian queens from across seven franchises for a spot in the Slaysian Hall of Fame

Another Drag Race franchise is coming to our screens August 13, and it’s going to be an epic battle. Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale is the latest Drag Race spinoff where “Filipino drag pride and Asian drag excellence collide.” Hosted by Paolo Ballesteros, from Drag Race Philippines, the All Stars-like series will feature 12 queens from eight different franchises as they try to claim the inaugural crown and the first spot in the Slaysian Hall of Fame.

In the running is Montreal-queen and designer extraordinaire Suki Doll from Canada’s Drag Race season two. The multilingual Vietnamese, Chinese and Cambodian performer is hoping to bring the crown to Canada – something only Jimbo has accomplished on an international franchise.

The visionary designer has outfitted queens across several seasons of various Drag Race franchises. She has dressed hosts Brooke Lynn Hytes (Canada’s Drag Race), Nikki Doll (Drag Race France) and Rita Baga (Drag Race Belgique) as well as contestants like Icesis Couture and Miss Fiercalicious. RuPaul also got a taste of Suki’s fashion when Pythia wore one of her designs on RuPaul’s Drag Race: Global All Stars.

Now her mission for Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale is not just to represent her heritage, but to redefine what it means to be a global drag icon.

What was Suki Doll’s track record on Canada’s Drag Race?

On her original season, Suki Doll was safe for three episodes before her elimination. She was applauded for her style and even won the first mini-challenge of the season. Her performance in the Snatch Game, as Yoko Ono, landed her in the bottom two where she lost the lip sync to Eve 6000. She was later voted by her season two sisters as Miss Congeniality. Suki would return as a design mentor for a season five maxi-challenge.

What is Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale?

Earlier this year World of Wonder announced the Drag Race Philippines spinoff. In a statement, it said the show would shine “a spotlight on Asian drag as never before, celebrating its culture, its history, and creativity in a unique battle royale.”

The series is the third Drag Race franchise in Asia after Drag Race Philippines and Drag Race Thailand. Recently, rumours of Drag Race Japan have surfaced after an Instagram Story by World of Wonder co-founder Fenton Bailey. In the post, Bailey was looking for sponsors for the various franchises and featured the logos of all the editions. Eagle-eyed fans spotted one for Japan, though no official announcement by World of Wonder has been made.
