Dubai is set to experience a landmark cultural moment as the world-renowned musical Wicked arrives at Dubai Opera for the very first time. Running from 28 January to 15 February 2026, the production promises to transport audiences into the untold story of the witches of Oz with dazzling performances, soaring music, and groundbreaking stagecraft.
The international hit—seen by more than 65 million theatergoers across 130 cities in 16 countries—will feature over 100 cast, crew, and orchestra members. Fans can expect breathtaking sets, 350 costumes, and iconic numbers including Defying Gravity, Popular, and For Good. For the first time in Dubai, the show will also feature a dramatic scene where a witch appears to fly above the audience.
Composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz expressed his excitement, saying: “I’m delighted that WICKED is coming to Dubai, where it hasn’t been seen before. This new production brings its own vitality and creativity, while continuing to tell our story of friendship, love, and having the courage to be true to yourself and stand up for what you believe in.”
The production is presented by Broadway Entertainment Group in partnership with Dubai Opera, marking the company’s 15th anniversary in Dubai. Producer and CEO Liz Koops called the debut “a history-in-the-making moment,” emphasizing the milestone of bringing such a global phenomenon to the region.
For Paolo Petrocelli, Head of Dubai Opera, the staging of Wicked reflects Dubai’s position as a rising hub for world-class performing arts: “Welcoming this international phenomenon for the first time in the UAE affirms Dubai’s standing as a hub for cultural excellence and live entertainment of the highest calibre.”
Presented with the support of Dubai Calendar, AMEX, and Dubai 92, the production follows the musical’s success on Broadway, its Grammy-winning cast recording, and its blockbuster film adaptation starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
