10th October 2025 – (Hong Kong) A 31-year-old Filipino domestic helper has been found deceased in a suspected suicide at one of Hong Kong’s most exclusive residential addresses.
The fatal incident on 8th October at a luxury independent house located at 1 Peak Road on Wan Chai Gap. Police were alerted at 7.35am by a fellow employee at the property who discovered the woman had allegedly hanged herself with a cloth strip inside a room. The colleague immediately cut her down.
Upon arrival, paramedics confirmed the woman was deceased at the scene. A preliminary examination was conducted, and she was pronounced dead, negating the need for hospital transport.
In a statement, law enforcement officials confirmed that no suicide note was discovered during their initial inspection of the premises. The case has been classified as a suicide for the time being, though officers are continuing their inquiries. Authorities are now in the process of contacting the woman’s employer and next of kin to build a clearer picture of her circumstances and potential motives. A formal determination of the cause of death will be established following a post-mortem examination.
The mansion where the tragedy occurred holds a notable place in Hong Kong’s property history. The residence was once owned by the late Jin Yong, the revered wuxia novelist. The current owner is mainland Chinese billionaire property developer Zhang Songqiao, often referred to as the “Chongqing Li Ka-shing,” who purchased the property in 2004 for HK$138 million. With the super-prime market on The Peak having surged since then, estate agents now estimate the 5,642-square-foot property could be worth in excess of HK$560 million, a valuation that would render it one of the most valuable so-called “unlucky” properties in the city.
