MANILA, Philippines — Bela Padilla relayed her respect for her uncle, senator and fellow actor Robin Padilla, while also pointing out differences in their stances and approaches to their beliefs.
Bela is related to Robin from her mother’s side as Robin’s mother Eva Cariño is the sister of Bela’s grandmother, making them relatives by second-degree consanguinity.
The actress sat down for an interview with Karen Davila for the latter’s YouTube channel, where the broadcast journalist brought up how Bela always agreed with Robin’s stands on issues.
Bela, however, corrected Karen, saying with a laugh she “doesn’t agree with 99% of the things” Robin has been fighting for recently and his ideologies.
She indicated their differences as individuals such as respective religions, with Robin being a Muslim while Bela grew up in the beliefs of the Christian denomination Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“Doon pa lang, the base of our principles are already very different. Religion does play a big factor in how a person thinks,” Bela explained.
While Bela called Robin “one of the nicest and kindest” she knows, detailing his generosity and good heart, the actress said she’d approach things differently than her uncle.
“That doesn’t mean anything, I feel, because we’re two different people,” she reiterated.
In the same interview, Bela called out beneficiaries of nepotism for their “tacky” sense of style by wearing multiple brands.
“You don’t see people wearing branded stuff, like, super in your face, you know? If they do, it’s one. It’s one piece in their whole outfit,” Bela said. “Nababaduyan kasi ako. Brand on brand on brand. Guys, have some, ano naman, have some class. Kainis!” — Video from Karen Davila’s YouTube channel
