Ascott celebrates 25 years in the Philippines with a cultural tribute

The Ascott Limited, one of the world’s leading serviced residence providers, recently marked its 25th year in the country with a grand celebration held at the National Museum of Natural History in Manila. Since entering the local market in 2000 with Somerset Millennium Makati, Ascott has grown to 17 properties across several major cities, offering world-class service through its five brands: Ascott, Oakwood, Citadines, Somerset and lyf.

“It is with immense pride and profound gratitude that Ascott Philippines celebrates our 25th anniversary, an incredible milestone that serves as a powerful testament to our sustained commitment to excellence and innovation,” said Ascott Philippines’ general manager Patrick Vaysse.

The anniversary event featured cultural performances, including a special opening act by the Philippine Ballet Theatre and Quartet Manila. A symbolic lighting of 2,000 electronic candles by guests and Ascott officials paid tribute to the year the first Philippine property opened.

Ascott chief strategy officer and managing director for Southeast Asia Kar Ling Wong, highlighted the country’s role in the company’s regional growth. “The Philippines holds an important place in Ascott, with over 6,000 rooms. More importantly, the Philippines has always been taking the lead in some of Ascott’s initiatives globally,” she said.

In line with Filipino tradition, the celebration also included a carefully curated dinner featuring local ingredients and dishes created by chefs from Ascott properties nationwide.

The company also honored long-time partners and stakeholders through the Diamond Star Awards. Notably, the first award went to Somerset Millennium Makati owner Melesa “Elsie” Chua.

Ascott continues to champion sustainability through its Ascott Cares program. A recent initiative raised nearly ₱295,000 for the Kabang Kalikasan ng Pilipinas Foundation Inc., with funds coming from the sales of Ascott’s animal plushies. The donation was turned over in May during a ceremony at Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila.

Looking ahead, Ascott aims to have 30 properties and 6,000 keys in the country by 2028. New Somerset properties in Valero Makati and Gorordo Cebu are set to open this year.
