Agjanti Miller definitely had fun in his first rivalry game, steering San Beda University past longtime nemesis Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 68-58, for an unbeaten start in NCAA Season 101 on Sunday.

The Filipino-American high flyer caught fire in the third quarter before the rest of the Red Lions got the job done to cruise to a 2-0 start in Group B despite missing veterans Yukian Andrada (shoulder strain) and RC Calimag (back spasms).

Miller tallied a game-high 22 points, including eight straight points late in the penultimate period, while also grabbing five rebounds, two assists, and the huge block on Mark Omega late to make his mark in his first-ever taste of the heated San Beda-Letran rivalry matchup.

The loss now sees Knights slipping to a 0-2 card following a shock loss to a young JRU team last Friday.

Letran failed to put the clamps on Miller in the third with the newcomer unleashing a triple and completing a three-point play to fuel a 10-1 closing run to head to the fourth enjoying a 53-45 lead.

The Knights, despite a cold shooting all throughout the game, still managed to stage a fightback behind Omega, whose layup trimmed the gap to four, 62-58, in the final 1:42 of the game.

San Beda, however, did not panic at all with Bismarck Lina sinking a pair of free throws before Miller basically sealed the victory.

The 6-foot-4 guard came up with a huge denial on Omega’s layup attempt then converted it to offense on the other side for a comfortable 66-58 advantage.

Fittingly enough, he capped off his stellar outing with a two-handed slam after escaping the defense of Omega.

But the win wasn’t just a simple one for Miller, sharing he had been setting his sight on this day ever since joining the Red Lions.

“Since my residency and as soon as I landed, I kept saying ‘Letran, Letran, Letran’ and the rivalry and so to wait a year and finally being here, it’s an honor and fun out there,” Miller, whose mother has a Filipino heritage said.
