Marvin Agustin grieved over the situation of the country amid the worsening corruption and noted that while many have been speaking up about it, some have only been doing so “for attention.”

The actor-businessman chimed in on the public scrutiny over the allegedly anomalous flood-control projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

“Lunod na lunod tayo ngayon—hindi lang dahil sa baha, kundi dahil sa matinding corruption,” he said via his Threads page on Thursday, Sept. 4. (We are drowning not only because of the floods but also of corruption.)

“At sa dami ng nagsasalita ngayon, malinaw na malinaw sino ang speaking up with intention, at sino ang speaking up for attention,” he continued.

(And while many have shared their sentiments on the matter, you can clearly see who is speaking up with intention and who is speaking up for attention.)

Agustin, who did not immediately name who he was referring to, then declared his love for the country, although he admitted it is getting harder and harder to do so.

“Haaay Pilipinas mahal na mahal pa rin kita, ang hirap hirap lang talaga,” he wrote. (Philippines, I love you so much but it has become so hard.)

Several netizens nodded in agreement with Agustin, with some pointing out that corrupt people even have the audacity to “brag” about their luxuries.

The public issue on the irregularities on the flood infrastructure projects has also given rise to criticisms aimed at the lavish lifestyles of the children of politicians and contractors involved in the alleged anomalies.

Prior to Agustin, several celebrities including Anne Curtis, Bianca Gonzalez, Jodi Sta. Maria, Sarah Geronimo, Matteo Guidicelli, and Alden Richards have also voiced their frustration on the corruption in the country. /ra
