At eight months pregnant, the 30-year-old singer stunned the audience and judges with her commanding vocals and delivery.
Her performance drew a rare standing ovation from the judging panel, Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Mel B and Howie Mandel, as well as from the cheering live audience.
The powerful showing secured her spot in the semi-finals after she won over American viewers through public voting. Host Terry Crews made the official announcement on Wednesday night (US time), sealing a triumphant moment for the former American Idol finalist.
On social media, the official “America’s Got Talent” account celebrated her achievement: “From AGT Season 1 to the AGT semifinals Jessica Sanchez is back and better than ever! Congrats on an unforgettable quarterfinals performance!”
Sofia Vergara, who awarded Sanchez the golden buzzer in the audition round for her stirring take on Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” once again praised her talent.
“I think there’s something very special that happened on the stage with you. It’s so amazing that we’re on the 20th anniversary of AGT, the 20th season, and you’re here again after 20 years. You’re pregnant. You’re so beautiful. You’re so ready to do all this,” she said.
Sanchez expressed her gratitude to fans and supporters: “Oh, my gosh. I’m on cloud nine right now. Thank you so much, everybody. I appreciate it.”
