Quentin Millora-Brown’s potential national team entry gives youth and size to an aging Gilas Pilipinas frontcourt

MANILA, Philippines – More size for Gilas Pilipinas.

Former University of the Philippines forward-center Quentin Millora-Brown was reclassified by FIBA from a naturalized player to a local player under the organization’s Management and Administration Platform, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced on Friday, August 15.

“We’re pleased with the update from FIBA because a player of his size and skill can make a positive impact for Gilas Pilipinas Men,” SBP president Al Panlilio said in a statement.

The 6-foot-10 Millora-Brown had been on the radar of Gilas head coach Tim Cone, who described the Filipino-American big as an impressive physical player.

“He’s awesome. Man, I’d love to have him,” said Cone just three weeks ago. “He’s physical, he gets to the offensive boards real well. Great size.”

The former UP Fighting Maroons standout had personally showcased his skills as a member of the Macau Black Bears during a tuneup game with Gilas Pilipinas, where he submitted 6 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block last July 28.

Millora-Brown’s potential national team entry gives youth and size to an aging Gilas Pilipinas frontcourt, which paraded 35-year-old June Mar Fajardo and 38-year-old Japeth Aguilar in the recent FIBA Asia Cup campaign.

The Philippines ended its Asia Cup campaign against defending champion Australia in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, August 13.

Millora-Brown, only 24, had various stops in the US NCAA Division 1 before heading to the Philippines in a one-and-done UAAP season with UP.

The towering Fil-Am averaged 9.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 17 games played for the eventual UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball champion.

Millora-Brown targets a possible playing stint in Europe or a return to Macau, and has ruled out joining the PBA Season 50 Rookie Draft.
