8 Filipino caregivers from Israel back in PH, says DMW

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed on Friday the arrival of eight Filipino caregivers from Israel to the Philippines.

In a statement, the DMW said the eight overseas Filipinos safely arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on Thursday evening aboard Philippine Airlines flight PR 0737 as part of the government’s ongoing voluntary repatriation program.

They were welcomed by Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Officer-in-Charge and Undersecretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay, joined by Assistant Secretary Maria Regina Angela G. Galias, NCR Director Falconi Millar, and personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), DMW, and the MIAA Medical Team.

DMW said the latest group marks the 38th batch of Filipinos repatriated from Israel since the launch of the voluntary repatriation program in October 2023, and the second batch since the onset of the Israel-Iran conflict.

The Philippine government earlier lowered the alert level in Israel from 3 (Voluntary Repatriation) to 2 (Restriction Phase). Under this alert level, essential travels like official visits and business delegations are allowed.

Meanwhile, non-essential travels to Israel like pilgrim visits, tourist visits, and travel of newly-hired workers are still prohibited.

The Philippine government previously expressed grave concern over heightened tensions in the Middle East following Israel’s airstrikes on Iran, calling for de-escalation and peace.

The tension in the Middle East was heightened on June 13 after Israel carried out strikes against Iran on June 13 targeting its nuclear and military sites, after US President Donald Trump warned of a possible “massive conflict” in the region. /mr
