It’s nearly here! We’re officially less than one month away from an “unforgettable weekend of Filipino flavour” in Toronto.
From July 4 to 6, Fun Philippines Toronto Food & Music Festival will take over the city’s Harbourfront Centre for a “high-energy celebration of Filipino culture, bringing together the Philippines’ culinary delights, musical traditions and artistic expressions.”
“Don’t miss Toronto’s ultimate Filipino festival at Canada’s community waterfront,” the festival website says.
Vendors at this year’s celebration include Potato Corner, Abs Yummie Empanadas, EDGE BBQ & Grill, Fan “D” Flame Restaurant and Happy Twist.
“This year we’re turning we’re turning up the flavour with exciting new Filipino food vendors joining the fun,” the festival website says.
You’ll also be able to enjoy live performances as you indulge in the “authentic dishes” being served up at the celebration. Entertainment includes traditional dances of “tinikling” and “singkil” alongside contemporary music from renowned Filipino artists.
Don’t forget to also check out Pinoy Bandfest on July 4 from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. as it brings the “heart-thumping energy of live, original Filipino music to the stage.
“The concert will feature performances from top Pinoy bands as well as local talent to “fuse heritage, rhythm and unity in a shared space where Filipino pride roars loud and proud,” the festival says.
On July 5 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., you can catch DJ Smoov Tdot, one of Toronto’s “top” Filipino DJs, in Jamming in the Park, also known as “Tugtugan Sa Parke.”
Throughout the festival, renowned Filipino artist Rey Narvasa will also be showcasing “Filipino INKspiration,” a visual exhibition reflecting the “heart of the Filipino identity.”
You can also peruse the cultural exhibits showcasing Indigenous crafts and artifacts and “connect with the community to celebrate the dynamic beauty of the country,” according to the festival.
And, don’t worry about grabbing a ticket — admission to Fun Philippines is free.
“We invite you to join us for this special event and make the most of your weekend by learning about different foods and cultural traditions,” the festival website says.
If you’re looking to make a weekend out of it and hit up more than one celebration, you could also check out Taste of Lawrence also taking place July 4 to 6. Known as “Scarborough’s largest street festival,” there will be over 150 vendors, live entertainment on two stages, midway rides and more. The free celebration will take place on Lawrence Ave. E. between Warden Ave. and Birchmount Rd.
So if you’re thinking about how you’ll be spending the first weekend of July in the city, this might be a great way to spend some quality time in Toronto.
